Coming straight from South America, Funeral Disco is brining us a new flavor of music ensured to get your heart rate up as well as your appreciation for the spooky side of music! Last week, I got the chance to DM Mel Zb and talk about the band and what it's like to
create such a unique sound. What is Funeral Disco all about? Why is "goat" such a common theme? Keep reading to find out!
So to start off, what is your name and what role do you play in Funeral Disco?
I'm Mel Zb and I'm the singer and guitar player.
And tell me, Mel, what inspires Funeral Disco? People, things, other artists?
We're inspired by the art of what we really love. . . not going with trends just to gain popularity. My inspiration comes from every melody, sound, or situation I come across and really touches me. I also to explore the obscure and macabre side of lie to get inspiration from it.
Do you guys play live? What's the best and the hardest part about it?
We are starting to play live. The best part is the rush you feel and the excitement of showing others what you've been working on for so long. The hardest part might just be dealing with your nerves so you don't mess up a chord, a solo, a vocal, etc.
Yes. Nerves are the issues for me too. Now, in reference to recording, do you guys work with a producer or do everything yourself? Either way, what is the recording process like?
I've produced all the songs and have been piled up for years. With the drummer, we took a bunch of songs and decided which ones should go on the album and be played live. All of those songs went through a process of mixing and mastering with a low budget since something is really expensve. Hopefully, on our next album, we can invest more.
*queue me losing my phone and disappearing*
Hey! I'm back. I noticed that you guys are from Bogotá, Columbia. Is there a big local scene down there?
Not really, that's another thing that is difficult down here, people are more into tropical stuff.
If someone had never heard a Funeral Disco song before, which song would you tell them to listen to?
Alright, and Horror Music is definitely a unique genre. When the band started, did everyone have that type of music in mind or has it developed along the way?
Well, when we started, we didn't aim for a specific kind of genre, I guess we mixed a bunch of genres together and got a horror/eerie vibe as final result.
Solid! This ones kind of funny, but what is Funeral Discos spirit animal?
That just about wraps it up, but before I go, is there anything that we should be looking forward to? What does the future hold for Funeral Disco?
Two new videos, a single, and then an EP.
