Danny of Stay Close
The lead singer of New Jersey based Pop-Punk powerhouse Stay Close recently blessed me with a quick interview. Read below for his insights on the band, it's influences, and growing up in Jersery!
Please introduce yourself and the rest of the band.
Danny: Hey, I'm Danny and i sing for Stay Close. The others are Dylan (guitar), Mike (bass), and Nick (drums)
Solid! So what are some of everyone's musical influences?
Danny: Our musical influences range all over from bands like The Devil Wears Prada (I know you saw that coming), All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Jimmy Eat World, hellogoodbye, and Blink, of course!
You can't forget about Blink, I mean, Blink-182 probably inspired Blink-182 to be band! I also noticed that you guys just released an EP. Did you guys handle that alone or did you work with a producer?
Danny: We worked with Nik Bruzzese from Man Overboard on this record. We've worked with Nik before and he seems to have always brought out the best in our writing
And how's the local scene in NJ? Is it easy to find shows to play?
Danny: The scene here was pretty rad growing up through high school and has seemed to be slipping away in recent years when it comes to smaller shows. I'd like to think that it's because of the amount of music out there, it's just not possible to always know where there are shows going on. Growing up, we had a venue in North Jersey called "School of Rock" and you knew that pretty much every weekend, you'd be there.
On that note, if you guys could play a show with any musician, Dead or Alive, who would it be?
Danny: Biggie runs the east coast so I'd imagine it'd be wild opening for him
Agreed. What is your favorite and in your opinion, the most difficult part about being in a band?
Danny: Favorite - all the money you make (kidding). Nothing beats writing music with your friends.Difficult - I guess all the money you don't make. Seriously, so many people are passionate about making music as their career but it's very difficult for it to become a sustainable income. You should buy a touring bands merch whenever possible!
Oh, you think I haven't? I had to get a second dresser! Just kidding, but I do have a lot. Now what is your biggest goal for Stay Close?
Danny: Us four have been best friends for 5-6 years now. We've played music together for that entire time and took a break to finish our degrees. We came back together to form Stay Close and we will take it as far as it can go. With that said, we just love making music. The studio is our escape from reality, where we get out all of our problems by writing songs. We'd love to be on a headlining tour but when we're old, we'll be just as happy due to the fact that we got to experience this together.
Alright, I must ask, how does one become as Pop-Punk as Stay Close? You guys are like hashtag goals?
Danny: Hhmmm, foolishly fall into bad relationships then sing about it over power chords?
Awesome, I'm half way there! So finally, if Stay Close was a food, what food would it be?
Danny: Buffalo Chicken anything.
Fantastic. I would eat you guys. But in the meantime, I'm gonna pretend I didn't say that because that just sounds weird. But anyway, thank you so much for doing this interview!
