Internet-discovered Seattle-based super star Amanda Hardy had the kind heart to let me interview her over this last weekend. Read below for her thoughts about touring, recording, and some awesome memories!
To start off, would you please introduce yourself and tell us how long you've been making music?
Amanda: Well, my name is Amanda Hardy. I'm a singer/songwriter from Seattle, WA. I started playing music when I was 13 years old. I'm 21 now. I've always been influenced by bands like the Beatles, Led Zepplin, etc. But when I got into writing music, it was music from the grunge era that really inspired me. Alice In Chains and Soundgarden being two of my main sources of inspiration.
Perfect! That answers the first question too! What is your favorite part about playing live?
Amanda: My favorite part about playing live is the rush I get when people cheer. It's unlike anything else. I just love being able to express what I love with other people who are having just as good a time watching a concert.
Is it difficult being a solo act compared to being in a band? I know that you have a band that plays music behind you, does their presence help with nerves at all?
Amanda: Absolutely. It really does help having other people around you working together, When you're by yourself there isn't anyone else there to pick you back up. I've enjoyed both experiences but I definitely love having a band more. It's doing what you love most with people you are close with and sharing the experience.
Do you have a favorite memory from playing live?
Amanda: One of my favorite memories playing a show was when I played a festival in Washington. We didn't expect a big crowd but before we went on, as sea of people showed up and they cheered so loud. We were on top of the world. I think that has to be one of my favorite memories, hearing all those people cheer back at us.
What is one place you've always wanted to play but haven't?
Amanda: Wembly Stadium is my dream!
Solid! What are three words you would use to describe your music?
Amanda: New, edgy, and nostalgic.
You have recently released an album. What were the inspirations behind the music. Lyrically? Musically?
Amanda: I think there was an underlying theme of "change". I was going through a lot of changes in my life at that point and it influenced my music. I also took inspiration from bands like Nirvana and Wolf Alice musically. I have a new album coming out that I am even more excited about and even more proud of. It's new and modern, yet reflective of what I love and am inspired by.
How is the recording process for your records, do you work with a producer?
Amanda: On my latest recor, I worked with a song writer who also engineered a lot of it. We worked well as a pair and recorder everything together. No producer needed.
Cool deal! Last question here. What are some of your goals for your music in 2018?
Amanda: My first goal is to get my record out in the begining of the year. After that I aim to go out on tour to push the new music!
Perfect! Thank you so much :)
